The CMF provides a great opportunity for the men of the church to get together each month to enjoy a delicious supper and wonderful fellowship in a very informal atmosphere. All men are welcome to join with the group in Fellowship Hall on the first Wednesday evening of the month. Meetings begin at 6:30pm with a full meal, followed by devotional and a business meeting. Meals are prepared by CMF members on a volunteer basis (usually in groups of three), and the results are some seriously good food. There is a suggested donation of $4.00 per person.
But the CMF is much more than just a social group. The CMF provides an important Christian outreach effort by undertaking projects to help people in the church and the community who are facing various hardships. Members regularly bring to the attention of the group particular situations where the CMF could be of help. Such help can range from physical labor to financial assistance. In a very real sense, these men are the “hands” of the church, and all men of the church are encouraged to join them.
A group of men of the church gather in the fellowship hall at 6:45am every Thursday morning for a hearty breakfast and great fellowship. Some members of the group prepare the food, which includes the full range of breakfast fare: eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, grits, cheese biscuits, toast, juice, coffee, and sometimes additional items. Other members take care of the kitchen clean-up. All men are encouraged to join the group and participate in this entertaining event. A donation of $4.00 is suggested.
The meal is followed by a short devotional time, which often leads to an interesting discussion. The last Thursday of each month features a more in-depth discussion of a specially selected topic.
The DWM is open to all women of the Bath Christian Church. Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday night of the month following family night at 7:30pm in the church fellowship hall. In keeping with the church’s mission, the women provide support for the congregation by providing meals following illness or surgery and bereavement meals. In addition to support for the National Disciples of Christ organization, love offerings and contributions for community and local agency needs are made throughout the year. A Celebration of Women banquet is held in the spring to recognize and celebrate all women of the church regardless of age. An annual Bazaar is held in November which includes breakfast and lunch, baked goods, canned goods, frozen casseroles, handmade crafts as well as a yard sale. The bazaar is a great time for collaboration and fellowship for everyone within the church as well as the community. All women of the church are encouraged to attend and get involved for the greater spiritual growth and enrichment.
More than 50 years ago, the women of the DWM of Bath Christian Church sought to organize a fundraising event that would provide funds for church, mission and outreach projects. In addition to cookbooks and providing meals for community organizations, members decided that they would try their hand at a Bazaar. The event began in a small way with a meal, their cookbooks, some simple crafts, and baked goods. Now, a half century plus later, the Bazaar has become a tremendous activity for our entire church family. On the third Saturday in November several hundred people make their way to Bath for the primary reason of shopping at our Bazaar. We have something for everyone. Beginning with delicious breakfast biscuits at 6:30 to provide nourishment for a real shopping experience, shoppers then journey across the street to partake in a massive yard sale beginning at 7:00. When the remainder of the Bazaar opens at 7:30, shoppers find their way to the Fellowship Hall and Sunday School Building to purchase scrumptious home baked cakes, pies, and candies, to stock their cabinets with home canned vegetables, fruits and interesting salsas and relishes, to find used books for their reading pleasure, to purchase knives, to take a chance on our annual raffle of special items, to browse and purchase the many hand-made craft projects that the ladies have created, and to replenish their systems with a wonderful soup and sandwich lunch. By 1:00 shoppers have departed with plans to return the following year, all spaces are prepared for the following day’s church services and activities, and a very satisfied, exhausted and proud group of people are thinking over the day’s event and sharing exchanges with visitors who shop the Bazaar yearly as well as the newcomers to event. Though the Bazaar began many years ago as a DWM project, it is stilled planned and organized by the CWF, but the project could not be possible without the help of the men of our church, who devote the entire week of the Bazaar to helping set up and assist in whatever way possible. Even the youth group has gotten into the act by having a booth that helps to fund their Christmas project to help underprivileged children. The preparation for the Bazaar is a year-long endeavor of hard work. However, the reality of the Bazaar is that it is a wonderful time of fellowship for our church family and the opportunity for a tremendous amount of money with which we are able to help many community projects, outreach in partnership with area churches and organizations, and readily-available funds for people who find themselves in unexpected need. The Bazaar is one of the highlights of our church year.
Family Night is held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday night of the month, and it is both a time for fellowship and fun. We have 6 team groups that take turns preparing the meals and they are responsible for serving the meal and presenting a short devotion. Following the devotion we have a time to remember Church members, family, friends, and community members who are in need of prayer.
The Bath Community Sunrise service at Bonner Point is a service sponsored by Bath Christian Church. It is an attempt to bring together our sister churches in a joint effort to remember our risen Lord. The ministers of five of our area churches participate and each has a part in the service. On a rotating basis one of them brings the message at the Sunrise service. The Sunrise Service began at the initiative of Bath Christian Church. Bath Christian Church secures the site, provides the refreshments, and also opens its building for use if the weather prevents our meeting at Bonner Point. Bath Christian Church organizes the service and provides the bulletins used for the service. The goal of our community sunrise service is not only to honor and remember that Christ is risen, but also to remember that we are all his disciples and that at least on an occasion such as this we can worship together.
Bath Christian Church has a very active choir comprised of 21 members. The choir shares a Message Through Music during each Sunday morning’s worship service. The song selections are varied, ranging from contemporary to country gospel and traditional spiritual music meditations. Not only does the entire choir sing for worship but we have several soloists and small groups who sing together as well. Choir rehearsals are held the first three Wednesdays of the month from September through mid-June. There are no auditions for participation in the choir as all are welcome to share in the music ministry of our church.
The choir of Bath Christian Church hosts a Christmas Cantata program on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of December. Members of choirs from several local area churches join our choir members in forming a community choir for this annual event. Rehearsals begin the first Sunday in October and are held weekly until the Cantata performance. There are no auditions for this community choir and anyone who enjoys singing and joyful fellowship with other singers is encouraged and invited to join. The Cantata is presented at 5:00pm on the 2nd Sunday in December with refreshments following in the church fellowship hall. On the 3rd Sunday in December the Cantata is shared as part of the morning worship. This annual event has been a tradition in the Bath community for over 38 years.
Bath Christian Church provides Sunday School classes every Sunday starting at ages 5 through adult. We have 2 adult classes. Please join us for great fellowship and the teaching of God’s word.
